How this instrument works
Wedding planning runs on deadlines that count backward from one fixed date, so the figure that actually matters isn't today's date — it's how much runway is left before it. This instrument takes today's date (it defaults to the current date) and your wedding date, and reports the days and weeks remaining between them, the same civil-calendar subtraction used across this site's other date instruments.
Alongside the day-and-week count sits a months figure, which behaves a little differently from a simple 'total months to go.' It's the calendar-months remainder after any full years are subtracted — so for a wedding under a year out, like 9 months away, it reads exactly what you'd expect. For a wedding more than a year out, the months figure resets below 12 and only tells you where you sit within the current year of the countdown; the totalDays and totalWeeks figures are the ones that capture the true full span in that case.
That day-and-week framing also matches how most wedding planning actually gets scheduled: save-the-dates a year out, invitations at three months, final headcounts at two to three weeks — vendors and checklists are usually written in days or weeks, not a years-months-days breakdown.

Worked example — wedding on 15 May 2027
With today's date at 2026-07-28 and a wedding date of 2027-05-15, the instrument reports 291 days remaining, which comes to 41 complete weeks, and a months figure of 9.
The 9 comes from a full breakdown of 9 months and 17 leftover days — under a year away, so the months figure lines up with plain intuition here: 9 months and change until the wedding. The 17 leftover days aren't shown as their own figure, but they're folded into the 291-day and 41-week totals alongside it.
Questions
Why doesn't the months figure just keep counting past 12?
Because it's the leftover-months component of a years-months-days breakdown with the years part left off the page — it only ever runs 0 to 11. For a wedding 9 months out, that matches a plain total-months count exactly, since there's no full year to subtract yet. For a wedding a year and five months out, the same field would read 5, not 17, because a full year has already been subtracted first. Lean on the totalDays and totalWeeks figures for the true full span whenever the wedding is more than a year away.
How is this different from this site's vacation-countdown or time-until instruments?
They all run the identical day-count subtraction underneath. Vacation-countdown is framed around a trip's start date, time-until is a general-purpose countdown to any date, and this page adds the months figure on top of days and weeks specifically for wedding-planning milestones that get discussed in months as the date approaches. Pick whichever label matches what you're actually counting down to.
Does the weeks figure round to the nearest week or round down?
It rounds down to the last complete week. 291 days is 41 full weeks plus 4 extra days, and the instrument reports 41 rather than rounding 291 ÷ 7, about 41.6, up to 42 — a wedding that's 291 days out genuinely isn't a full 42 weeks away yet.
Can I use this to count down to an anniversary or engagement date instead?
Yes — the instrument doesn't check what kind of event the wedding-date field represents, it just measures the span between it and today. Enter an anniversary date, a vow-renewal date or any other future date in place of the wedding date and the same days, weeks and months figures apply.
Does this account for leap years between now and the wedding?
Yes, automatically. The day count is a serial-date subtraction on the proleptic Gregorian calendar, so any 29 February that falls between today and the wedding date is already folded into the totalDays and totalWeeks figures without needing to be handled separately.
