How this instrument works
A standard beer pong match uses two teams shooting at a rack of cups arranged in a triangle on each side of the table — the classic setup is 10 cups per team with 2 players per side, though house rules vary widely on cup count and team size. Running a tournament multiplies that single-match beer usage by however many teams are entered and however many games each team plays on average, which adds up fast even at modest cup sizes.

An 8-team bracket with 2 players per team, each team playing an average of 3 games at the standard 10-cup setup poured at 12 oz per cup, needs 8 x 3 x 10 x 12 = 2,880 oz of beer total. Buying that in standard 12 oz cans means ceil(2,880 / 12) = 240 cans.
At $1.50 a can, that's a total cost of 240 x $1.50 = $360.00 for the whole tournament. Split across 8 teams of 2 players (16 players total), that works out to $360 / 16 = $22.50 per player — a straightforward number to collect before the bracket starts.
Questions
Why does the calculator round containers up instead of down?
You can't buy part of a can or bottle, so rounding down would leave you short of beer by however much the fractional container would have held. Rounding up (using the ceiling of the exact volume divided by container size) guarantees you have at least enough beer to cover every cup in every game, at the cost of occasionally buying a little more than the bare minimum — a sensible trade-off for a tournament you don't want to run dry.
Does this include a blood alcohol or drunkenness estimate?
No, deliberately not. Beer pong tournaments involve too many individual variables — body weight, drinking pace, food intake, tolerance — for a single shared number to mean much per person, and getting that kind of estimate wrong carries real risk.
