This instrument runs the same length-width-depth-to-tons calculation as this site's general gravel calculator, then adds one more step: multiplying the resulting tons by a delivered price-per-ton figure to get an estimated total material cost. That gives both the physical quantity to order and a rough dollar figure for planning, from one set of driveway measurements.
Both the gravel density and the price per ton are typical, adjustable planning figures here, not fixed constants. Worked example — a 50 ft × 12 ft driveway base
A 50 ft by 12 ft driveway needs a 4in base layer of gravel at a typical 1.4 tons per cubic yard density, priced at a rough $45 per ton delivered. Enter 50 into Driveway length (ft), 12 into Driveway width (ft), 4 into Gravel depth (in), 1.4 into Gravel density (tons/yd³), and 45 into Price per ton, delivered ($). Volume comes to 50 × 12 × (4÷12) = 200 cubic feet, or 200 ÷ 27 = 7.4074 cubic yards.
Gravel needed (tons) comes to 7.4074 × 1.4 = 10.3704 tons. Estimated material cost multiplies that by the price per ton: 10.3704 × 45 = $466.67 — a rough planning figure, not a firm quote, since delivered gravel prices vary widely by region.
