The method itself is simple arithmetic layered on top of that one number. For a 5K, add a flat 33 seconds per mile to the Magic Mile pace. For longer distances, multiply the Magic Mile time by an increasing factor — 1.15 for 10K, 1.175 for 10 miles, 1.2 for a half marathon, and 1.3 for a full marathon — because the physiological cost of holding pace compounds as distance grows, so a flat time addition that works for 5K badly underestimates the fatigue of a marathon.

What exactly counts as a valid Magic Mile effort?
It needs to be a genuinely all-out, race-effort mile after a proper warmup — not a comfortably fast training pace. Galloway's predictions are calibrated against maximal one-mile efforts, so a mile run at 90% effort will understate your actual fitness and produce target paces that are too slow across every predicted distance.
How accurate are these predictions really?
