Worked example — 1.0 ng/mL progesterone, 200 pg/mL estradiol

A progesterone of 1.0 ng/mL converts to 1.0 × 1000 = 1000 pg/mL before anything else happens. Divide that by an estradiol of 200 pg/mL: 1000 ÷ 200 = 5. The conversion runs first here — the opposite order from this site's T/E2 calculator, which never converts anything at all.

A progesterone of 1.5 ng/mL over an estradiol of 300 pg/mL converts to 1500 pg/mL, and 1500 ÷ 300 = 5 as well — a proportionally higher estradiol reading absorbs the higher progesterone and leaves the figure unchanged. Drop progesterone to 0.8 ng/mL against a higher estradiol of 400 pg/mL instead, and 800 ÷ 400 = 2, a lower result driven mostly by the larger estradiol reading sitting in the denominator.
