Like any bulk aggregate, it's priced and delivered by weight, so this calculator converts your project's footprint and depth into cubic yards, then into tons using a density figure.

Density is not a fixed constant — it shifts with the limestone's gradation, meaning how it's crushed and sized, and its moisture content at delivery. A typical crushed limestone base material runs around 1.3 to 1.4 tons per cubic yard, with 1.35 used here as a reasonable planning midpoint; finer, more compacted gradations trend toward the heavier end of that range, and looser or wetter material trends lighter. Confirm the density figure with your specific quarry or supplier before finalizing a large order, especially for a job where being short a delivery matters.

Depth matters as much as density for the final tonnage: a thin 2-3 inch topping layer for a walkway uses far less material than a 4-6 inch structural base layer meant to support vehicle traffic on a driveway.
